Queen City Speed | Charlotte Skyline Hyperlapse

Charlotte's skyline moves fast when you compress it into a hyperlapse. This video is a drive through Uptown Charlotte — a couple of laps around the grid — with a 360 camera mounted on a long pole sticking out the sunroof. The pole gets the camera above the traffic and into the space between the buildings, and the hyperlapse compresses the drive into a fast, dizzying run through the skyline.

Charlotte is North Carolina's largest city and its financial center — Bank of America, Wells Fargo, and Truist all have major towers here. The wide-angle 360 lens grabs everything — the reflective facades, the narrow canyons between towers, the street-level storefronts, and the sky overhead. The distortion is part of the look: buildings lean and bend as the car turns, and the speed ramps give the whole thing a momentum that a walking shot can't match.

A few Charlotte landmarks show up in the sequence. The "Museum of Illusions" storefront is visible at street level — one of the newer attractions in the Uptown entertainment district. The upward shots between buildings catch the height differential between the older brick structures and the newer glass towers, which is part of what makes Charlotte's skyline visually interesting from the street.

We shot this during a content production day in Charlotte, capturing b-roll for client work while testing the 360 hyperlapse rig.
